Summer 2023
I’ve had a busy Summer so far. I painted another version of “Juliol”, as someone wanted the first one before I’d even finished it, and once I did show it to people, someone else asked if they could buy it. That never happens!
It’s lovely, though part of me would have liked to show them in public before they disappear. Such is life :)
I also finished this current phase of my project with Xanu (started in September 2020!!). I’m excited about where these paintings are going. After the summer we’ll take another look at them and decide if we’ve finished or not.
All of which means I’m ready to start some new personal work. The project with Xanu has been an awesome font of both ideas and technical improvements, and I’m looking forward to putting them into practice.
First up I’m starting two square painting, based on a color palette I saw in an illustration by my friend Petra Sitaru (check out her stuff). I asked if she minded that I wanted to borrow her color scheme, and she said she didn’t.
Now, increasingly I am finding it difficult to photograph my work accurately… this isn’t really the color you see in real life, but perhaps you can get the idea.
I wanted to start with just a gradient of the background color for the first work. The second painting is going to be based on my Juliol design, using this background color, with a selection of other colors I am stealing from Petra.
